As the final whistle is blown on the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022, Lionel Messi is confirmed as the most engaged-with player on social media.

Messi amassed 281.7m engagements and 24m new followers during the tournament.
It was yet another accolade for Argentinian superstar Leo Messi as he racked up more social media engagements than any other player during the Fifa World Cup 2022 tournament.
Messi amassed 281,706,038 engagements and 24,055,162 new followers throughout; his Instagram post in the aftermath of victory has reached 56 million likes and counting, making it the most liked in the platform’s history.
New world champions Argentina – nicknamed the Albiceleste because of their ‘White and Sky Blue’ kit – ranked number one for new followers (their 4.1 million representing 17% of the total) and third for engagements with 274.1 million.
It was an Instagram post from Argentina which also evoked the strongest emotional response from fans – a photo of Messi lifting the World Cup trophy and the message: “The picture you always dreamed of, we always dream. Thank you, Captain!”
